OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (WKRN) —A woman died in a fire at a home early Sunday morning in Old Hickory.

Crews were called to the fire at a home on Jones Circle around 6 a.m. after residents reported seeing smoke.

The home, which is located in a secluded area of Old Hickory Village, sits low in elevation along the banks of Old Hickory Lake, which is why fire officials said the fire was not reported right away.

Fire officials said the house collapsed on itself and crews used a boat on Old Hickory Lake to try and put the fire out from underneath where it collapsed.

It was too dangerous for firefighters to enter the collapsed home, according to fire officials.

Crews returned to the shell of the home Monday morning to recover the woman’s remains from the home. A forensic anthropologist from Middle Tennessee State University was called in to assist with the search.

Officials found the woman’s remains Monday morning.

“In the back of the house, there is a, the way the house is built, there’s a sunroom that she was known to sit in and we found her approximately in that same area,” said Fire Marshal Al Thomas.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The woman has not been identified by officials.
